About Internal Medicine of Greenwood
Internal Medicine of Greenwood was established in 1952 as one of the area’s first internal medicine practices. The practice has grown to a team of internal medicine physicians who are known for providing a high level of personalized care. Internal medicine physicians are specially trained to care for adult patients and the complex illnesses and chronic health conditions that are more common in adults, including disorders of the heart, lungs, gastrointestinal, kidney, blood, and nervous system. In addition, our physicians see patients for general health and wellness, routine physical exams, and for the treatment of common illnesses such as colds and flu.

What is Internal Medicine?
What kind of doctor is an internal medicine physician?
An internal medicine physician has special training in the prevention and treatment of adult diseases. Sometimes referred to as a “doctor’s doctor,” the Internist often serves as a consultant to other physicians on complex diagnostic problems.
What does it mean to be board certified?
A physician who is board certified in internal medicine has met training and education requirements of the American Board of Internal Medicine which is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties and American Medical Association. The physician must present evidence of licensure and scope of practice and pass an exam every 10 years.
Do I need a referral to see an internist?
With the exception of Dr. Byrnildsen, our Endocrinologist, no referral is needed. Call (864) 227-6641 for an appointment. Internal medicine physicians are considered primary care physicians for adults, so referrals from other doctors are not required.
